10 Week Update

We had our latest doctor appointment on Tuesday morning. I'd be lying if I said we weren't a little nervous going into it. Although we'd heard the heartbeat on the ultrasound right after my surgery, it had been another 4 weeks without any more confirmation that things were progressing normally.

Our appointment was bright and early Tuesday morning. Unfortunately I had looked at the calendar wrong a few weeks ago and thought that the appointment was LAST Tuesday morning. Instead, I had to wait another week. That being said, I was quite ready for this appointment time to arrive!

We saw the doctor who did my emergency surgery and I was able to thank him for taking such good care of me. I had never met him before a few minutes before the surgery, but later I found out that he is a top notch doc who gets all the "complicated" cases, which I took as a good sign...must be a skilled doc!

Anyway, we talked for a few minutes about how I was feeling (tired, hungry, some back pain already) but everything seems normal. Then the happy moment came...time to listen for the heartbeat. Since we were only at 10 weeks there was a chance that we wouldn't be able to hear it yet w/o an ultrasound, but our prayers were answered in the affirmative when we got to hear the quick little "thump, thump, thump" at 150 beats per minute...right on track! To say it was a relief is an understatement to say the least.

I am finally feeling like I can get excited about the pregnancy and the new baby coming. I had vivid dreams last night of caring for our little one; then this morning I found myself tearing up at a song that I thought would be great to play for our kids when they leave for college. Wow...I hope they don't grow up THAT fast!

Anyway, thanks so much for all of your prayers on our behalf. Today our specific prayer is for Chuck though, not the baby. He has been sick all week and we are leading a couples retreat in KY this weekend...he needs to be feeling better and have his voice so he can be most impactful. Pray for open hearts and for us to have the right words and actions to speak God's truth to these couples.

I'll try to post pictures when we return (although my brand new camera is broken...so sad. Will try to return it tomorrow. Anyone have suggestions for a reliable easy to use small camera in the $100 price range?).
