Turning the Corner

We just got home from spending a week with my parents camping in their 5th wheel camper. Such an enjoyable time spent resting, walking, eating, talking, playing cards and playing putt-putt.

Now that we're home for a week, we're looking forward to figuring out what this "new normal" will be like with little Salem in our family.

Last night we may have turned a corner...or a least had a fluke to happen - who knows. Salem slept from midnight to 5:15am without waking up once!! This is the most sleep we've had in a row in several weeks. I was extremely grateful and am looking forward to it happening again!

Also, some of you know that I've had some breastfeeding issues and hopefully we are turning the corner on that too. I was concerned a bit about my milk supply since I was exclusively pumping for several weeks, but that seems to be getting better with each day.

I'm trying to start her back nursing again some too. Today we're going to pick up a "My Brest Friend" nursing pillow from a craigslist listing for $10 and I'm hoping that it will make a difference in how easily I can get Salem positioned for a good latch. We used one in our lactation consultant appointment and it made a big difference compared to using the Boppy pillow that I have or just bed pillows. Salem has been termed an "aggressive eater" by our pediatrician, so I have to make sure she's latched just right or we have problems (I'll leave the details up to your imagination!!).

Well, I'm off now to change a poopy diaper and get my little one out of milk-stained PJs and into a cute onesie for the day. Let the day begin! :)

I'll leave you with a few pictures that my cousin Sharee took of Salem on her 4 week birthday. Enjoy!

That second picture is really phenomenal!

I'm so glad you're persevering with nursing. Best wishes on it. Once you both have it all figure out, it is just the best thing. :)

O.k. so it sounds to me like you might have had the same issues i had with olivia the first time around. It seems like you have been doing a whole lot for a new mommy. I could not imagine trying to do all that you are doing and working on breastfeeding issues and dealing with the exhaustion of no to little sleep. We are still waking up Zach every three hours to make sure I keep up my milk supply and train him to NOT fall asleep instead of eat. Anyway, we miss you guys and are praying for your health and happiness.

Love you!
