Wicked & Heavenly

This weekend we enjoyed time with our friends Matt & Patrice and Steve & Erin. We had a cookout and an Olympics Opening Ceremony party. Sarah, Brittany, and Jenifer surprised us with an impromptu visit too.

Patrice and I spent this morning hanging out on her back deck enjoying the cooler weather and watching our puppies play together in the backyard. After it warmed up a bit, we headed to the local salvage store where I picked up some supplies to use for a project I've been working on for homemade Christmas presents. After stopping at a couple of yard sales, we went back to the house to find the guys watching the Olympics...all five channels worth thanks to DirectTV...badmitton and all!

We left just in time for me to make it to my hair appointment. I was trying out a new place, the Wicked Salon, downtown, and I didn't want to be late. Dianna, the owner, donated a gift certificate to the Cancer Services auction this spring and I bought it. Although I was not sure what to think about the name at first, I was very impressed! Dianna was friendly, knowledgeable, listened to my thoughts and concerns, was quick, and my haircut turned out better than ever! I will definitely be back!

The neat thing is that her husband owns the business next door, Heavenly Sweets. It's a small ice cream shoppe offering hand-dipped cones at a very reasonable price. Not much stays open late around here, so it's a welcome addition to the businesses downtown. Plus, it's nice to be able to support a young family trying to make it through their own businesses.

Also, while I was getting my haircut, Chuck went a couple doors down to get the dogs' nails trimmed. Also a fairly new addition to downtown, this pet grooming store only charged $5 per dog for a nail trim (compared to our vet's $10 per trim) and again, we're supporting a local downtown business.

Wicked Salon...so good it's "bad"

Heavenly Sweets...our new favorite ice cream shoppe!

Tomorrow will bring an uplifting time of worship...AND it's my mom's 50th birthday! She and dad are in Nova Scotia with friends celebrating, so we won't get to see her, but we're planning on celebrating together on the cruise in October.

Next week will be a busy one for me as I will be headed to Dallas, TX to participate in training for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. I'll be serving as an advocate reviewer again for their research grants. It'll be a nice time to be away in a plush hotel room for a couple of evenings. And since we can't get our antenna to work here at the house, I'll enjoy two nights worth of all the Olympics coverage I can handle!

Well, the weekend is not over yet, so I am headed to watch a Netflix movie with my husband. Goodnight all!
